Kilian Manufacturing helped a major construction and agriculture equipment manufacturer reduce excessive field service calls by designing a custom bearing assembly that corrected a performance problem in the company’s skid steers.

The original assembly for the skid steer foot pedal, which is used to help maneuver the equipment, continually failed. The eight-piece foot pedal assembly featured a bushing inside the casting with two O-rings, which wore down. The excessive clearance in the assembly caused the control lever to slip, resulting in loss of vehicle control for equipment operators. This problem required the manufacturer to spend a great deal of time and money in the field to replacing the failing bushing system.

The manufacturer asked Kilian to help provide a solution. In response to the challenge, Kilian engineers developed a single, precision bearing assembly that minimizes play and eliminates the O-rings that had worn down in the original system. This single assembly solution replaced eight components. It reduced the manufacturer’s costs for the foot pedal assembly and for warranted equipment repairs.
