Transit Rail Cars

The New York City Subway is one of the most extensive public transportation systems in the world with 842 miles of track, 468 stations and over 6,200 rapid transit cars. Keeping the vast fleet of rolling stock in-service is a never-ending task. Rigid maintenance schedules are followed to prevent car shortages that could negatively impact ridership capacities.

Each transit car has four traction drive gearboxes which are mounted to the axles and driven by electric motors. After years of rugged service, some of the gearing inside the gearboxes needs to be replaced due to normal wear.

Nuttall Gear was selected to provide replacement gear and pinion sets for the transit car gearboxes. Superior machining capabilities and exceptional quality control procedures allow Nuttall to produce the complicated gear/pinion sets which were custom-engineered by the traction drive OEM.

Nuttall has been producing replacement pinion and gear sets for mass transit applications for over 25 years.
