ALTRA PROVIDES HIGH PERFORMANCE COUPLING SOLUTIONS FOR NAVIES AROUND THE WORLD

Modern navies are comprised of a wide variety of sophisticated vessels, including aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, patrol boats and submarines. With more than 105 navies in the world, advanced battleforce and support ships continue to be commissioned at a steady pace to meet multi-mission duties, including war fighting and maritime security.

Recent developments in technology, including on-board gas turbine engines and water-jet propulsion systems, have introduced even more demanding requirements on marine drivetrain components. These technologies enable warships to operate at very high speed in very shallow water while meeting or exceeding today’s increasingly onerous mission demands.

ADVANCED ALTRA DISC AND DIAPHRAGM COUPLING TECHNOLOGIES RISE TO THE CHALLENGES OF NAVAL PROPULSION APPLICATIONS

For decades, the Altra High Performance Coupling Group has designed and manufactured highly engineered coupling solutions for many of the world’s navies. Bibby Turboflex and Ameridrives are now leading global suppliers of couplings for the naval/marine market. Altra couplings can be found on most of the nextgeneration naval ships currently under construction at shipyards around the world.

CUSTOM COUPLINGS ARE OUR STANDARD

Bibby 8500 Couplings

This 4.5m long engineered Turboflex type 6HS-39-400 coupling is one of a pair, designed to transmit 36MW of power from twin on-board gas turbines rotating at 3,300 rpm.

Backed by extensive experience, the engineering teams at Bibby Turboflex and Ameridrives routinely develop advanced Turboflex disc couplings and Ameriflex diaphragm couplings to meet or exceed the challenging requirements of all types of marine propulsion gas turbines, including the very popular GE LM Series

Altra high-performance couplings are also designed and manufactured to meet the requirements demanded by all of the major international marine classification societies, including ABS, DNV and Lloyds. .
