Recently, the students of P-TECH visited Kilian - a brand of Altra Industrial Motion, in Syracuse, NY. P-TECH (Pathways to Technology), is a collective partnership between the Syracuse City School District, Onondaga Community College (OCC) and the Manufacturer's Association of Central New York (MACNY). As an alternate to a traditional 4-year college degree, the partnership incorporates a program that offers students a combination of high school, college and career training. Throughout this partnership, Kilian has helped to mentor students and help them to develop special projects and presentation skills while also introducing them to high-tech manufacturing. The skills that the students learn will help to prepare to replace the current workforce as they retire. Students begin the program in their early high school years as it evolves into an apprentice program where Kilian is committed to hiring students who complete 10-40 hour/week of intensive hands-on training working with soft and technical skill associated with working in a manufacturing environment.
