Boston Gear Stainless Steel QC700 Reducer for Seafood Processing Equipment
A large seafood processing equipment manufacturer wanted an improved stainless steel gearbox solution for use on its shrimp processing machines. In the field, the machines often operate non-stop for extended periods of time to meet delivery commitments. The demanding production schedules reduce the service life of the machine’s various electric motors, requiring frequent motor replacement.
Under these tough conditions, fretting on the machine’s motor shafts often “rusts” the shafts to the gearboxes. This required end user maintenance workers to hammer on the motor and gearbox to separate them. The process often damaged the motor shaft and gearbox, resulting in the need to replace both the gearbox and the motor. To solve the problem, Boston Gear recommended switching from its stainless steel F700 gearboxes to QC700 Series models.
The stainless steel QC700 Series gearboxes feature a completely self-aligning coupling that eliminates the need for a flange pry slot and allows for easy motor removal and replacement. The pry slot removal keeps the input seal in a protected/cleaner environment for longer service life. The QC “Quick Connect” design incorporates a three-piece flexible coupling that minimizes fretting corrosion and makes motor separation easy.
SS QC700 units provide smooth operation due to ground worms and a shimmed assembly process that reduces backlash. Units feature a rounded housing design, double-lipped shaft seals and covered hardware to prevent foreign matter adherence and fluid accumulation on or under the units. All models incorporate the trusted Boston Gear 700 Series worm gearing and have been optimized to withstand the harshest conditions.
The internal worm is specially-ground for enhanced efficiency and lower heat generation leading to prolonged product life. The housings, motor flange, and carrier are crafted from 316SS to endure tough, caustic washdowns.
