A European luxury goods manufacturer needed a compact motion solution able to deliver constant torque output at a competitive price for a high-quality, automatic watch winder application. Automatic watch winders provide constant movement for watches that are not being actively worn, thus keeping them wound without human interaction. This customer was seeking smooth rotation of the watch for quiet operation, as well as low power consumption for this battery-run application.
Portescap was selected as the motion solution partner for this project based on its flexibility and accommodation in working with the customer, who required a customized motor at an attractive price. Portescap was able to meet the customer’s needs as well as their compressed timeline. The Portescap team recommended the Athlonix™ 22N78 Brush DC Motor with some minor modifications.
Thanks to its ironless core, the lightweight Athlonix motor provided consistent output, low noise and low power consumption - as well as a lower cost of ownership. This success was made possible by multiple analyses and carefully customized product development between Portescap and the customer.
