Oxygen Pump

Oxygen generators are critical for providing oxygen to patients; key requirements of these devices are longevity, reliability, and efficiency. An oxygen concentrator operates under a simple principle, where the device takes in ambient air, removes other gases, impurities and particulates, and then concentrates the oxygen to supply enriched O2 to the end user.

An industry leading medical pump manufacturer was seeking a cost-effective solution to drive a miniature pump for a respiratory system oxygen concentrator and selected Portescap due to its robust technical support network and history of medical motors innovation. Portescap’s R&D team worked closely with the customer to incorporate the Athlonix™ 16DCP brush DC motor into the pump application, resulting in a cost-effective solution characterized by high efficiency and extended life. Additional modifications, including the addition of ball bearings and special lubrication, increased the device life expectancy well beyond the test requirements.

Customer life tests performed with the new motor design ran well beyond the 30,000 hour life test requirement. The lower price point also benefited the customer through improved market competitiveness of the respirator.
